A Perfect Purée at Paula's Carry Out Cafe

Heather and I met earlier in the week, over – what else – soup! She introduced me to the Carry Out Café in Newburyport which is exactly what it sounds like – and more. They offer soups, salads, sandwiches, and hot entrees to carry out as well as several tables for dine-in customers.

Good Grub at the Grog

The Grog is located in downtown Newburyport, MA. With three floors, they offer something for almost everyone. Downstairs, at the basement level, they offer live music several nights a week. The first floor features a spacious dining room and a bar with a multitude of cocktails, several wines, and a nice selection of beers on tap. Finally, there is a quieter dining room upstairs on the second floor with a small bar area.

Wayside Inn, Sudbury - Cool Soup, Cool Place

I know I’m starting to sound like a skipping CD, but we had another beautiful spring day in the Northeast last Friday - soft blue skies with fat, slow moving puff clouds and dry air in the low 70’s .  It would’ve been perfect for a bike ride but not with my dear ol’ Mom who’d just come in t

Chicken Soup – Simple or Stunning?

There is little in-between with chicken noodle soups in my experience. When I think of chicken noodle soup, I either think of the typically bland canned variety that I inevitably end up eating when I’m sick…the kind that makes me swear off of chicken soups for months at a time… or I think of the rare but amazing home-made kind that is nourishing and comforting at the most fundamental level. When chicken soup is good, it’s really good.

Mulligan’s Westborough - A Flavorful Local Hit

used the bike again to run some errands and work up that special kinda’ soup hunger on a beautiful mid-spring morning last Friday.  The temperature was mid-70’s, wind was down: a real rarity for this spring in the Northeast.  It’s really been blowin’.

Classic Soup with a Southwestern Flair- Masa Woburn

I recently learned that Boston’s Masa Restaurant had opened a new location in Woburn, MA in 2008, and I was eager to try their gourmet-sounding Southwestern fare. The restaurant is located in a strip mall, but you’ll forget about that once you step inside. The décor is contemporary meets Southwestern, and the background music is an eclectic mix of light party and Latin-inspired music (it made me want to salsa, although I don’t have a clue how to!).

Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Inman Square

I’m always up for Mexican food! Olé in Inman Square, in Cambridge, MA serves up authentic Mexican fare by Chef Erwin Ramos.

The restaurant decor harkens the flavor of Mexico with its beautiful artwork and color scheme. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, yet sophisticated. A lively front room and an spacious back room allow plenty of seating options, and the front bar provides a fun social air.

Tom’s, Northborough - Butternut Squash & Apple Comfort

Rolled my bike out of the garage Friday to recently dried roads ahead but angry, grey skies above. A few pedal strokes into my six or so mile ride to Tom’s Eatin’ & Drinkin’ Place in the center of Northborough, MA and already I started getting splashed by tiny, cool raindrops. I looked up at the grey and gently asked, “Please let me get there not dripping like a wet rat. After that, let me swim in a deluge if you want. Fine with me.”
