Butternut Bisque and Brownies! - The Powow River Grille

The Powow River Grille in Amesbury, MA, might be best known for their fresh seafood, or perhaps for their fabulous martinis. But it was the soup special that was the real standout on my last visit!
Powow had a Butternut Squash Bisque on the specials board, and I can’t resist butternut squash in any form. I ordered a cup as an appetizer, and received a generous portion of incredibly thick and delicious bisque. It was so thick that I could have drawn a picture in the “broth!” It was garnished with anisette crème fraiche and an apple cider reduction. The combination of flavors created an incredible sweet-tart explosion. I don’t typically like the flavor of anisette, but it complemented the other flavors so well that I enjoyed it thoroughly. All of the flavors - apple, licorice, and squash - sang.
There are several enticing entrees at the grille, but save room for their signature Mexican Brownie with Cinnamon Ice Cream – I defy you to find a better brownie!
