When I get delivery, it’s usually pizza or Thai food. But that might have to change, now that I know that there is a soup delivery service in DC that serves not only delicious soup, but vegan, healthful (meaning you can recognize all the ingredients on the ingredient list), locally sourced, and hearty soup.
According to Michel Verdon, half of the duo that opened Bistrot Du Coin in Dupont Circle in 2000, a good soup is simple, hot, and accompanied by a good glass of wine with bread and olive oil. As the winter bears down on DC, nothing sounds better than this remedy.
Domku is far from the hustle and bustle of downtown DC. It’s even a bit far from the lively Mt. Pleasant and Columbia Heights neighborhoods. It’s tucked up in Petworth, about five blocks from the metro station.

It’s a shame to acknowledge that Beethoven couldn’t have know Founding Farmers sous chef Lisa Frantz when he said, “Only the pure of heart can make good soup.” Clearly, she has never thought naughty things, gives to the homeless, eschews a compliment and loves unconditionally because she makes one hell heck of a good soup.

I begrudgingly conceded to the autumnal equinox with a big bowl of shallot and onion soup at DC' s Brasserie Beck. One needs comfort food when faced with the end of summer...when we say goodbye to long days and hello to dead leaves, when we pack away our gelato spoons and bring on the braise.
Last week in the Nation's Capitol I decided to check on the late Spring soup scene. And while browsing through lists of standard soups(French Onion, Minestrone, Chicken Vegetable, etc) I gave pause to the menu posted in the window of the New Heights Restaurant, just steps from the Woodley Park-Nati

If I didn't know better, I would have gone on and on about the Oval Room's delicate medallions of shrimp sausage with citrus-dressed micro-greens in a bath of mushroom jus, because (unless I'm trippin') what's billed simply as "Wild Mushroom Soup" is anything but.
Trying to describe this soup to a friend was like a scene out of Willy Wonka:
