Warm Comfort in a Box - Trader Joe’s Organic Butternut Squash Soup

If you’ve read any of my blog reviews, you know I’m an avid biker.  I bike right through the winter as long as there’s no ice or deep snow on the road – at least when I start my ride.  And, I was out not too long ago, just as winter was stretching its frosty, blue fingers to take hold of the Northeast.  It wasn’t quite freezing outside, but I was sure surfing the edge of comfort going out

Roche Brothers Chicken Rice Vegetable Soup

Those who know me, however, know I’m a big fan of tweaking flavor. And that’s the beauty of bringing soup home. As long as there’s a decent base – and this freshly made soup as it is straight from Roche is certainly much better than decent – you can make it what you want. So I’m gonna’ add some of my favorite ingredients: balsamic vinegar, a little Parmesan cheese and a shot of ground black pepper.

Outside the Box - Stop & Shop Fresh Soup

I picked up my dear ol’ Mom last Friday after she’d spent a few days at my brother’s not far away. She’d come down with a nasty cold like the rest of us. We’d no doubt contaminated her. I’d intended to take her out to lunch for soup, but she wasn’t feeling well enough to do that. Still, soup was a good idea, and I wanted to do a review - so, time to think outside the box. And I thought, if I can’t bring Mom to the soup, how ‘bout I bring the soup to her? And, why not give her a choice? This is America after all.

Comfort That’s Hearty & Healthy- Kettle Cuisine’s Three Bean Chili

What a perfect early fall day for soup! It’s cool and dark with a hovering, thick pregnant sky. I figured I had a small window, took off for a short bike sprint and came home a smiling but cold wet rat. While I showered, I warmed a bowl of Kettle Cuisine Three Bean Chili the soup as directed on the package in the microwave oven (yes, incredibly for a guy, I read the directions). The soup came out hot, deeply red and thick - a lot thicker than the photo on the package, and I’m glad for it. The steam that curled up off the bowl right away smelled comfortably rich with flavor.

Quick Fix - Instant Soup From Leftovers

Whoa, what a Friday! Kids up screamin’ early and wired for a big day of school. Tons of (fun) work to get done by dear ol’ Dad (me). Errands to run. Washing machine’s chugging, drier’s spinning. Gonna’ be shuffling kids across town pretty darn soon. I’m hungry. It’s cold and rainy out - darn cool for is mid-May. What a perfect soup day. But no time to go out or even order out.
